    Given a more fluid international situation, foreign policy in China has become more complex and shaped by more polarised internal debates.

    Hardliners have called for a more assertive stance, while moderates have said that Beijing should embrace international norms. Which way the balance tilts will have an impact not just on the region, but also the rest of the world.
